SERVICE LEARNING

Service learning is a vital part of school life at Galloway. From our upper school H.A.T. (Helping America Today) Club to each grade level's service learning projects, Galloway students are taught at an very early age the importance of helping others in need.

Service learning...

1) Enriches students’ academic and cognitive development;

2) Teaches students valuableskills including helping others, working as a teamand being
    responsible;

4) Develops an awareness ofcivic responsibility in students;

5) Utilizes effectiveproject management tools for monitoring projectand student progress; and

6) Develops an awareness in students of the non-profit sectorwithin the Greater Houston Area.
Students participate in Fall and Spring service learning projects in every grade level beginning in PreK-3. Teachers are encouraged to explore a wide variety of local, national and global charities before making their selecting their service learning projects for the year. Service projects are planned and worked on as part of morning Leadership Academy on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays during home room time. All Service Learning projects follow the PARC model, which emphasizes Preparation, Action, Reflection and Celebration.
Galloway has developed a school Service Learning Handbook to ensure all service learning projects follow a proven model of success with all forms of service learning projects. When our students are out in the local community working to enhance the lives of humans and animals in need, we want Galloway students to exemply excellent citizenship, good manners, and uphold Galloway's core values (Integrity, Compassion, Diversity, and Faith.)
