Why Can’t I Skip Reading This Summer?

A. If you read 20 minutes each day … you’ll read 1220 minutes or 610,000 words this summer!

B. If you read 5 minutes a day (or only read 20 minutes a week) … you’ll read 305 minutes or 95,565 words this summer.

C. If you read 1 minute each day (or only read once a month) … you’ll read about 61 minutes or 2708 words this summer.

The OWL Summer Reading Program requires students to read 20 minutes each day throughout the summer. Whether reading yourself, or listening to books on tape or listening to a parent or family member read to you, these all count toward increasing reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary.
