Summer Reading 2014 – Incoming First Grade

 

Wherever your summer adventures take you and your family, reading is a great way to beat the heat and relax. So, don’t forget to pack a few tales, including that summer reading!

 

First Grade Summer Reading Requirements

 

·         Book Selection: Read a minimum of ten books from the HAISLN or 2x2 Reading List.

 

·         Assignment: Book BoxComplete the project detailed below using one of the selected summer reading books.

 

1.       Decorate a shoe box to match the setting of the story. Use materials of your choice. For various settings, use different sides of the box.

 

2.       Write the title, the author, and the illustrator on the inside of the box cover.

 

3.       Select, or create, one or more of the following items to put in the box: 

·         a photo of yourself reading the book;

·         a character puppet/puppets;

·         a bookmark you create showing your favorite part of the story; or

an item or a drawing of an important thing (or event) in the story.

 

4.       Write your name on the bottom of the box.

 

5.       Be prepared to explain your story to the class, using your book box.
