Upper School Academics

The upper school consists of grades 3rd-8th with a focus on extending students above and beyond the normal academic requirements of other schools; both public and private. With a strong foundation built at the lower school level, the upper school curriculum is designed for the application of the skills learned in grades 3 years through 2nd with the addition of problem-solving skills, higher-level thinking skills, advanced technology skills, and research skills.

Upper school students are involved in activities that require higher level thinking, cooperative groups, and research projects that require a curriculum that is accelerated to meet their needs.  Upper school classes include Literature studies, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1, World Cultures, IPC Science, and Lab experiences.  All of these studies are done using the most updated technology skills.  Grades 4th-8th graders use laptops for many of their research projects in all academic areas.

Galloway students function approximately one to two years above grade level and because of their exposure to our accelerated curriculum this allows their transition to high school a smooth one.  Year after year Galloway students have proven to be outstanding students who have been accepted at some of the most outstanding colleges and universities in the nation; Harvard, Rice, Duke, Texas A & M, Purdue and Stanford.

Along with the high expectations and rigorous academic program, upper school students participate in many wonderful activities and scholastic contests.  Week long trips to Camps,  San Antonio, Colonial Williamsburg, and New York for immigration studies are included in the curriculum.  These out-of-the classroom experiences provide for hands-on learning and a real understanding of the academics studied.
